Greeting the Ocean, Once Again

When I was young I was always excited about going out and partying with my friends. I was a night owl, I guess in a lot of ways I still am.

I have always been a creature of mystery and fantasy, a person who relied on spells, sage, and salt water for relief and relaxation. I still love to bask in the ocean’s embrace, its in fresh, cool, and dedicate touch. I went out with a friend who came to visit me from New York and as soon as I touched the water with my big toe I felt so different, I felt changed, calm, high, ecstatic, overjoyed, and sad. I felt all these things at the same time all at once rushing inside me; one and each other, they were tearing away trying to be the winning emotion inside me. It all came rushing through me like a waterfall.

I dived inside the water and I thought to myself: “how could I have been away from you for so long?”  I hadn’t been to beach in years and the irony is that I live about 15 minutes away. I missed the tranquillity that came from diving in the ocean, I missed the shear joy of it all. The sad part of it all is that most people don’t take the time to enjoy or really understand its deep, soothing pleasures.

Remember how I said I was a creature of the night, a “night owl?”  Well… I am also a creature of the sea, a mystical horse that rides the waves, a dolphin that dances through the brushes of splattered water, the ocean that longs to set just to feel the cooling hug of the waves. I am the one always longs to greet the ocean once more, to feel its power and it majesty, its healing heart, its gentle sway and salt.

I believe that the ocean can heal more than physical wounds, it can heal the heart, it can cure the lonely, it can bring a smile to a poor soul, it can bring back someone who has contemplated death, in its core, the ocean, the sea, it is a healer, a wise spirit who guides us still.
